The recognized need for primary care led to the creation of our Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). The Health Center provides primary health care at nine (9) locations, West New York, Union City, North Bergen, Jersey City, Hoboken, Passaic, Garfield and Hackensack, in addition to our mobile health center. Services include adult medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, family planning, dental, psychiatric and mental health services. In 2008 the health centers served over 61,184 patients and provided over 203,923 patient encounters.

MOBILE HEALTH CENTER COMMUNITY SCREENINGS
Throughout the year our mobile health unit travels the community providing information and screenings to residents.  In addition to WIC enrollment, the mobile’s staff screens for high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.  Referrals are made to our various health center sites.

8,205 people were screened receiving 24,615 services.

ALCOHOLISM AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES
Treatment, education, community awareness of alcohol and substance abuse have been part of our services for more than 30 years.  The scope has grown over time and our addiction services program is now a fully integrated component of our community health center, encompassing the following activities.


SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT CENTER
Offers outpatient, individual, group, and family counseling for alcoholics, the dually addicted, and their families.  Substance abuse education support groups are available.  A wide spectrum of social service support is also provided in English and Spanish.

387 new clients benefited from 4,417 services.

The STEP (Senior Treatment and Education Program) program addresses the needs of persons 60 and over regarding issues of abuse and the need for treatment.

1,630 clients were served with 4,417 services.


SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT AND AWARENESS IN SPANISH
Services specifically target the Hispanic population in a culturally sensitive way.  All services are in Spanish and encompass group, individual, and family counseling plus substance abuse education.  Community education is also provided and adolescents can be served.
